Greek Referendum: NO to imperialist blackmail, NO to the Troika and the EU, NO to the payment of the foreign debt

The workers, youth, popular sectors and the left have taken to the streets to repudiate, once again, the Troika and calling for a NO. We join in solidarity with that call. The working people and youth of Greece are experiencing key moments in their struggle to come out of the constant imperialist blackmail, the blackmail by the Troika (IMF, European Union-EU and European Central Bank) which for years has been imposing packages of cuts in their wages, pensions, and privatisations and all forms of plunder of their riches. All this to pay a fraudulent and unpayable foreign debt, carried out by governments accomplices of the IMF and the international banks.

Given the new imperialist blackmail, the Syriza government has been forced to call a referendum in Greece on Sunday 5 July. The situation has reached such a point that on Tuesday the government of Syriza had to stop paying the foreign debt, an instalment of €1.6 billion. The Troika, the IMF, the bosses, the bankers and the Greek right, could not prevent the referendum and fear a triumph of the NO. All of them have set out to promote the YES to continue with the "memoranda" and cuts to the Greek people.

“NO” in the 5th of July referendum

By Internationalists Comunists Organization (OKDE) – GreciaWe can beat them once more – Struggle everywhere, to support and expand the victory of January 25, to support our own working-class and popular rights! The memorandums must be stripped out completely!

The blackmail on the part of the creditors/usurers, the EU and the IMF, has led SYRIZA to (temporarily?) break the so-called "negotiation" and resort to the people, asking them to reject the inhumane measures proposed. The creditors had been so far encouraged by the continuous concessions of the government and were aiming to impose upon the greek people a new shameful agreement. The measures included large primary budget surpluses, cuts of wages and pensions, irrational increases in VAT on goods consumed widely, the abolition of all tax exemptions for workers and popular layers, as well as relentless tax drainage, unreasonable increases in retirement age limits... and many more – which will only lead the greek economy and society to total disaster. And what is more, they are asking for harder and harder measures, they send ultimatums, they stomp on popular and national sovereignty, as if they are addressing a colony, in an obvious attempt to humiliate and squeeze the Greek people.

Greece: Syriza gave in to pressure by the IMF and the European Union

The government of Syriza, headed by Alexis Tsipras, who claims to be of the left, ended up giving in and agreeing to new adjustments against the Greek people. The government of Syriza, headed by Alexis Tsipras, who claims to be of the left, ended up giving in and agreeing to new adjustments against the Greek people. The left wing of Syriza came out to oppose it and denounce the pact of its government. So did other sectors of the Greek left.

By Miguel Sorans, IWU-FI, 23 June 2015

During the month of June there were decisive encounters that would put at stake whether Greece continues paying the foreign debt, with the adjustments and under the control of the Troika: IMF, European Union (EU) and European Central Bank.

We repudiate the death penalty to political leaders in Egypt!

We do not grant any rights to this murderous dictatorship to judge anyone. It will be the working people and youth, who started the revolution, who may try former President Mursi, head of the MB, and also these military murderers who purport to speak on behalf of the revolution when they are the agents of the counterrevolution.Down with the civilian-military dictatorship!

Former Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi was sentenced to death on a provisional basis on 16 May by a criminal court in Cairo, Egypt. The court of appeals upheld the ruling in June. Also sentenced to capital punishment for spying were the chairman of the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, Saad Katatni, his vice president, Essam al-Erian, and the prominent Islamic preacher Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who was tried in absentia. Mursi was sentenced to death, along with other 105 members of the Muslim Brotherhood. Mursi and the MB leaders have received crude accusations that include a denunciation of "receiving" aid, for an alleged "flight" of Hamas and Hezbollah fighters.

These convictions are endorsed by the civil-military dictatorship of General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, which has persecuted supporters, members and leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood. But this dictatorship not only persecutes the MB but represses strikes and all forms of youth and popular protest. Key sectors in the revolution of 2011 that overthrew the dictator Hosni Mubarak, such as the April 6 Youth Movement, have been declared illegal.

Call to support the revolution in Syria

What has been happening since March 2011 in Syria is a real revolution, which still stands today, despite all the violence and the atrocities of the Syrian regime against the raised people.Following up the activities in support of the Syrian revolution at the World Social Forum (WSF), in March 2013, forces and leftist parties in the WSF 2015 considered it necessary to ratify and strengthen their support to this Revolution; and pledge to do everything possible to organise a meeting in Istanbul in July this year, bringing together all forces and leftist parties, social organisations, trade unions and solidarity movements supporting the Syrian revolution, and who are willing to defend the Syrian people in their struggle for the revolution their right to overthrow the blood thirsty regime of al-Assad.

Salameh Kayleh is a Syrian Marxist intellectual of Palestinian origin. He spent several years imprisoned by the dictatorship of Bashar al Assad. Arrested again in April 2012 and then deported to Jordan. In the World Social Forum (WSF) in Tunisia, conducted in late March, Kayleh attended the workshop in favour of the Syrian revolution organized by IWU-FI. There, together with other organizations, it was decided to convene an international meeting to support the revolution in Syria on 11 and 12 July in Istanbul, Turkey. In recent weeks a number of battles in the north of the country and in towns close to Damascus, would show that Assad forces are losing ground again.

Call to solidarity with the Syrian revolution and the Kurdish people

We call on the international left organizations, on the solidarity movements to make their voices heard in solidarity with the struggle of the Syrian people and the Kurdish people.March 15 marks four years of the popular uprising against the regime of Bashar al-Assad. Two hundred thousand dead, towns and villages destroyed, more than seven million displaced, and another three million refugees abroad, is the balance of this bloodthirsty regime that has not hesitated to use the entire deadly arsenal against its peoples to remain in power.

The intervention of Russia and Iran providing weapons to the regime, together with direct military intervention by Hezbollah, have been instrumental in changing the course of the military front giving the regime military supremacy. But the popular resistance in Aleppo and other cities demonstrates the will and determination of the popular uprising, and prevents the regime to complete the defeat.

The regime encouraged the formation of ISIS, emptying the prisons of Islamists prisoners.

Triumph of the left in Greece! Only the non-payment of the debt and the break with the EU, the Troika, the IMF and their adjustment can provide a solution to the workers and youth!

Without a break with the Troika, the EU and the debt payments, there will be no solution for the workers and youth of Greece. In the elections of 25 January the left has triumphed. Syriza and its leader Alexis Tsipras have achieved 36.6 percent of the vote, with 2,246,064 votes. The ruling party New Democracy, conservative, defeated reached 27.8 percent. The triumph of the left is a very important fact that impacts on all workers and European youth. And also on the peoples of the world who for decades have been struggling and facing the adjustments and cutbacks of the bosses' governments, agents of imperialism and the IMF. Moreover when many took the left for dead and in some European elections there is the threat of the progress of the vote of the extreme right, type Marine Le Pen and the National Front in France or the Greek neo Nazi formation Golden Dawn.

On the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the USA and Cuba

Our revolutionary socialist current has always defended the socialist gains of the Cuban revolution of 1959, has repudiated all forms of imperialist aggression against Cuba, including the economic blockade and embargo. But we have always been critical of Cuba’s political leadership who was abandoning the socialist banner of the glorious era of Che Guevara

Statement by the IWU–FI

The announcement of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations, conducted jointly by Barak Obama and Raul Castro, after more than 50 years of rupture and US blockade has caused a logical impact on the world. This is an important fact about which all kinds of interpretations for the reasons for this change and its scope have opened.
Although it is a partial measure, since the historical blockade has not been raised yet, the mere fact that a USA president finally acknowledges, as Obama had to do, that after more than 50 years of rupture of relations and blockade to Cuba “have failed” means a political victory for the Cuban people and the peoples of the world who have fought for decades repudiating these reprisals of imperialism. Together with this, it is a welcome fact the release of Cuban prisoners part of the so-called “Five Heroes” (two had been released long ago), who had been for over 15 years in an US prison and were a claim of peoples and the left of the world. Therefore, as socialists, we reject Raul Castro thanking the Pope and congratulating Obama for this political setback. It was the struggle of more than 50 years of the peoples of Cuba and the world who achieved this political defeat of imperialism.

Syria: ¡Solidarity with the 4 Douma kidnapped activists!

We join and call to support the global campaign against the kidnapping of Samira al-Khalil, Razan Zeitoona, Wael Hammada, and Nazem Hammadi, carried out against al-Assad opposition activists who were unarmed.

We adhere to the global campaign for the abducted Syrian fighters

We join and call to support the global campaign against the kidnapping of Samira al-Khalil (*), Razan Zeitoona, Wael Hammada, and Nazem Hammadi, carried out against al-Assad opposition activists who were unarmed. About the kidnappers all indications intersect with the group of "Jaish Al-Islam" (Islam Army) and their leaders who have effective authority in Douma.

In Syria the struggle begun in 2011 to end the criminal dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad has produced thousands murdered by the regime as well as thousands missing and displaced.
